SUNRISE: Police arrest two homeless men on night of community-wide homeless meeting
On the night of a community-wide evening on homeless issues, police arrested two homeless men Monday on unrelated crimes.
About 9:40 p.m. Monday, police were called to a fight behind the Wal-Mart at 700 S. Eighth St. Police say Byron Crone, 34, got into a fight with another homeless man and threatened him with a Buck knife, telling him that he would be killed if he returned to the homeless camp.
The victim ran away uninjured and Crone was found at the camp and arrested.
Then, about 11:40 p.m. police responded to a burglary at Gasoline Alley bar, 28 N. Tejon St.
The bar manager was holding Joseph Banes, 28, for police. The manager told police that Banes had tried to steal alcohol.
Police say Banes was staying at a homeless camp near downtown.
Also Monday evening, the Marian House soup kitchen had a standing-room-only crowd as community members gathered to discuss ways to deal with the burgeoning homeless population in the city.
CLERK SPRAYED WITH PEPPER SPRAY
Colorado Springs police are on the lookout today for suspects who sprayed a liquor store clerk in the face with pepper spray Monday night.
The robbers went into Mesa Liquors, 1740 Shasta Drive, about 10:45 p.m. Monday night. When they approached the counter, one of them sprayed the clerk with the pepper spray and then they ran off without taking anything from the store. Police have not found them.
The clerk was treated at the scene for the effects of the spray.

AROUND COLORADO
DENVER — Three people convicted of murder have been released from prison because their cases were tainted by a now-discredited theory that bullets found at a crime scene could be linked to bullets found in possession of suspects. Nearly five years after the FBI abandoned its so-called comparative bullet lead analysis, the FBI has yet to complete its review of nearly 2,500 cases where law enforcement used such evidence to investigate a case.
BOULDER — Homeless people are asking Boulder to suspend its ban on sleeping in parks and public spaces, saying the bad economy and crowded shelters have left the needy with nowhere to go.
MONTROSE OFFICER KILLED — Colorado investigators say Montrose police who entered the garage of a man who shot and killed an officer during a domestic violence call in July believed that the suspect was unarmed.
ALAMOSA-EMBEZZLING — The former Alamosa Housing Authority executive director has been sentenced to six years in prison after admitting that she embezzled more than $1 million from the agency.
NINJA ROBBERS — A 68-year-old restaurant employee told Longmont police he was robbed of the business' daily receipts by two people he described as looking like ninjas.
