Charter School Institute has named Ethan Hemming as the institute’s new executive director. The  board  made the announcement Tuesday, following  a search that attracted more than 90 applicants.

 Hemming is currently the institute’s interim executive director. He joined the Charter School Institute in early 2011 as deputy executive director. From 2007 to 2011, he worked as deputy executive director for the Office of School Reform and Innovation with Denver Public Schools/

 He has amaster’s degree from Colorado State University and a bachelor’s degree from Colorado College.

 The Charter School Institute was created by the Colorado State Legislature in 2004 and serves as the state authorizer for 22 charter schools and 10,500 students.

CSI Board Chairman Eckerling said,  Hemming  understands the unique nature of the institute’s mission, to provide support for a growing and diverse portfolio of charter schools and to also hold those schools accountable for delivering what every student, parent and taxpayer expects—a quality education. The board has tremendous confidence in Ethan’s skills and we look forward to his leadership.”
