Nice N' Naughty

Nice N' Naughty first opened in 1983 with two locations, one in Pueblo and one in Colorado Springs.

My first store in Colorado Springs was just 450 square feet, and I carried only lingerie, she recalls. That profile evolved to include casual clothing and accessories over the years as Jourdan added another 400 square feet in the early 1990s.

With the relocation to an 1,800-square-foot store, Jourdan also seized the opportunity to add upgraded clothing lines, a broader array of semi-precious stone and silver jewelry as well as evening apparel.

Catering today to a 30- to 60-year-old female customer with an eye for color and comfortable, fun clothing, Nice N' Naughty also attracts a significant number of male customers who select gifts for wives or sweethearts. And yes, bestsellers continue to include silk and lace items.

I've thought of changing our name several times, Jourdan concedes, noting her inventory has evolved over the years. My husband actually came up with (the name) Nice N' Naughty years ago. I've invested a lot in that brand and think that many of my customers would be confused if we changed it now. Besides, it's who I am.

We are the oldest lingerie source in the Pikes Peak region, for example, but we've added so many additional items, Jourdan explains. And retail has changed over the past 20 years. I know I've got to market more aggressively to a new and more sophisticated customer.
