THE GAZETTE

A man died after a rollover crash in Park County Saturday afternoon, while his wife and twin children traveling with him escaped with minor injuries, said the Colorado State Patrol.

Scott and Joy Springer, of Westcliffe, were traveling northbound on Highway 9 just south of Hartsel at 1 p.m. when their 2002 Dodge Ram hit an icy patch, causing the driver, Joy, to lose control and the truck to roll, troopers said.

Neither Joy and Scott Springer, both 24, were wearing their seat belts and both were ejected from the car, state patrol said. The vehicle landed on top of Scott Springer, trooper said. He was declared dead at the scene of the crash by the Park County coroner.

Joy Springer was taken to Pikes Peak Medical Center in Woodland Park with minor injuries.

The children, twins Ely and Kaylie who turned 2 in October, were restrained in child car seats and uninjured after the crash.

Note: The spelling of the name of Ely Springer was corrected on 11/14/11
