Poet Jessy Randall, Colorado Book Award finalist for "A Day in Boyland,"will be the featured poet at the First Tuesday free performance workshop, followed by a poetry reading/performance, Tuesday in the Carnegie Room at Penrose Library, 20 N. Cascade Ave. Attend the performance-practice workshop at 6:30 p.m., then read and perform your original poetry or poetry by others at the 7:30 p.m. open mike (call Jim Ciletti at 634-2367 to reserve a spot).
An Aficionados Luncheon and Lecture will be held at noon Wednesday in Colorado College's Gaylord Hall, inside the Worner Center, at Cascade Avenue and Cache La Poudre Street. The luncheon features "The Last Indian War: The Nez Perce Story and the Making of the West," by award-winning author Elliott West. There will be a book sale and signing after the luncheon.

Elliott West also will give a lecture, "The View from Pikes Peak: Colorado's Gold Rush and the American West," at 7 p.m. Thursday in Colorado College's Gaylord Hall. The lecture is free, but reservations are recommended by calling the Pioneers Museum, 385-5990.
Adventures in Books, 606 N. Tejon St., will celebrate the Grand Opening of its Children's Book Room on Saturday. A book signing by Michael Haguewill be from noon to 2 p.m. Mark Modeer, owner of Zezzo's Magic Shop, will be on had to lead face-painting activities. Enter the "Name the Creatures" contest to name the art sculptures adorning the Children's Room.
