Four finalists chosen to bring new logo to Live it up! brand

Four local design firms will get the chance to create a new logo for the Colorado Springs brand.

The Live it up! tagline and accompanying logo of a stylized Pikes Peak received a less-than-warm welcome when they were unveiled in November. After meeting with a group of concerned local designers, the city’s branding task force, led by the Colorado Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau, decided to hold on to Live it up!, but search for a more evocative logo.

Twenty seven designers responded to the request for proposals and the task force’s “curator team” winnowed it down to four finalists: Mary Cukjati of Cukjati Brand Development + Creative, Troy and Sara DeRose of Fixer Creative, Carol Stephenson of River Rat Design and Greg Barrington of Barrington Design Studios.

“Everyone is excited to kick-off the next phase where we’ll get to see the designers’ ideas in action,” Chris Schell, head of the curator team said in a statement. “We’re one step closer to a new logo the community can be proud of.”

Each of the finalists can submit up to three designs, the best of which will be put up on the LiveItUpCS.co website in early February for public comments. A winner will be unveiled in early March. Each of the finalists will be paid $1,000 for their work and the winner will receive an additional $2,000.

The curator team planned to pick three finalists, but added a fourth because of the strength of the applications, said Chelsy Murphy, spokeswoman for the Convention and Visitors Bureau.
