Area colleges: CC's Lyman honored for 5-goal game
Colorado College’s Brittany Lyman, who scored five goals in the second half of Friday’s women’s soccer victory over UTEP, was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week.
The freshman from Arvada also was among 11 players nationwide named to the College Team of the Week by TopDrawerSoccer.com.
Golf
Tom Whitney is tied for 13th individually at even-par 72 and Air Force is 10th among teams at the Turtle Bay Resort Collegiate Invitational golf tournament in Kahuku, Hawaii.
Cross country
Allie McLaughlin, the Air Academy graduate, was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year after the freshman finished second to Colorado teammate and Olympian Jenny Barringer at Saturday’s conference meet in Columbia, Mo.
McLaughlin finished the 6-kilometer race in 21 minutes, 13.36 seconds.
Basketball
Weber State made 13 3-point shots in a row against Colorado-Colorado Springs on Monday night and 19 in the basketball game, finishing with a 110-58 exhibition victory.
Weber’s Damian Lillard scored 27 points and had seven assists, missing only one shot all night, a free throw. The Wildcats as a team shot 62 percent from the field.
