TABLE TALK: Smoothies top menu at new eatery
Naturally’s Market and Café, 110 Cañon Ave. in Manitou Springs (the former Adam’s Mountain Café location), will have a soft opening, the owners hope, about Feb. 11.
Actually, the emphasis of the eatery should be on the cafe, which takes up the majority of the space, with an open kitchen toward the back. The market occupies a very small room to the right of the kitchen, with shelves filled with vitamins and supplements. There’s a smattering of dry food goods.
According to Terry Burke, who with his wife, Rhonda, owns the store, the signature menu item is the smoothies.
“We use fresh-frozen fruit and do not add any fillers,” he said.
The pretty extensive menu features breakfast items, soups, salads and pizzas. Hours will be 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Hello! — breakfast special
The white board to the right of the cash register at The Glaze Craze, 6995 Lexington Drive, gives you a wake up call with, “Hello!” — a 99-cent breakfast special 8 to 10 a.m. for a limited time. Here’s what you get for less than a buck: two eggs, hash browns, bacon and toast. The café is attached to the Hub Car Wash on the west side of the building.
Salsa for Super Bowl
There are dozens of choices of the hot stuff on grocery store shelves, but a new contender, Dos Pistolas, is from the kitchens of Cafe El Paso, 3840 N. Nevada Ave., and worthy of a chip award. And, what better time to stock up than this weekend for a Super Bowl party?
The salsa is from co-owner Sandra Santoscoy-Sherer’s family recipe. She and her husband have been bottling the sauce in small batches and selling it at their restaurant. Now it can be found at Albertson’s for $4.59 for a 16-ounce jar. It can also be purchased at the cafe and at Whole Foods Market for $4.99. Hear the whole salsa story from Travis Taylor, with the Santoscoy Food Group, on “KVOR Table Talk,” noon to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Pizza switch-up
The restaurant is called Pizza Time, 8794 N. Union Blvd. in the Union Towne Center, but it serves hamburger specials on Wednesdays for $4.99 that come with mojos (thick-cut, fried potato wedges) and a drink. Tuesday Tacos get you steak or chicken tacos with signature salsa for $1 each. It also offers a menu of gluten-free pizzas, subs, pastas and beer. Oh, and Hawaiian Shaved Ice, with or without ice cream.
Weight Watchers helper
Applebee’s has updated five of its entrees to fit the new PointsPlus Weight Watchers program. Choices include: Chipotle Lime Chicken (PointsPlus value: 13); Steak & Potato Salad (PointsPlus value: 8); Spicy Pineapple Glazed Shrimp & Spinach (PointsPlus value: 8); Paradise Chicken Salad (PointsPlus value: 8); and, Cajun Lime Tilapia (PointsPlus value: 8).
Road trip
The Four Seasons Hotel’s Edge Restaurant & Bar, 1111 14th St. near the Denver Center for the Performing Arts, has taken a fresh look at its menu and made some tweaks. The most notable additions are the Edge Burger Bar and Edge Business Quickie.
New to the Burger Bar will be: a Kobe number, a buffalo burger, a lamb patty and a chicken burger. Burger prices range from $12 to $14.
The Edge Business Quickie consists of a cup of fantastic tomato soup, a mini sesame chicken salad, tamari-glazed salmon and a Kobe slider for $18.
Save room for one or more of pastry chef Christopher Jordan’s desserts. For instance, the chocolate tasting ($14).
