With two months to go in 2009, foreclosures already have set a record
Records are meant to be broken, but here’s one mark nobody wanted to see eclipsed.
El Paso County recorded its 4,603rd foreclosure notice today, surpassing last year’s record total of 4,602, according to County Public Trustee Tom Mowle, whose office processes foreclosure filings. It’s the third straight year foreclosure notices have set a record. They totaled 3,556 in 2007, which broke the previous mark of 3,476 in 1988.
With two months to go in 2009, foreclosures no doubt will surpass 5,000 for the year, said Mowle, reiterating a prediction he made months ago.
