Army names boss for chemical weapons in Colo., Ky.
PUEBLO — The interim manager overseeing the destruction of chemical weapons in Colorado and Kentucky has been named the permanent manager.
The Army said Tuesday that Conrad F. Whyne will formally become executive officer of the Assembled Chemical Weapons Alternatives Program on Feb. 26.
The program is in charge of destroying chemical weapons at the Pueblo Chemical Depot in Colorado and Blue Grass Army Depot in Kentucky.
Previously, Whyne was director of the Army Chemical Materials Agency, which was responsible for destroying weapons stored in Alabama, Arkansas, Indiana, Maryland, Oregon and Utah and on Johnston Atoll.
The sites were put under different programs because different destruction methods were used.
The U.S. is destroying the weapons under international treaties.
Whyne replaces Kevin J. Flamm, who was reassigned in November to another Army job.
