Layoffs at local Christian press

Christian publisher NavPress, a division of Colorado Springs-based The Navigators, laid off an unknown number of employees Friday and announced it will discontinue publishing its two magazines, Discipleship Journal and Pray!

"Magazine publishing has been hit hard," Michael D. Miller, president of NavPress and senior vice president of The Navigators said in a news release. "The Internet has been dealing a blow to print media for years. Then the economic downturn - it was like a one-two punch."

Miller or other NavPress executives could be reached for details. Dean Ridings, a communications employee, said additional information would be available Monday.
