Police: Parent attacked ref at Cheyenne Mountain game
Police say a parent at a youth basketball game who disagreed with a referee's call took matters in his own hands Saturday.
The parent, identified as 48-year-old Steven Vaughn, went onto the court and hit the referee in the face several times, police said.
"There was something in the game he didn't like," Colorado Springs Police Sgt. Bob Benjamin said.
According to police reports, the fight started at the game at Cheyenne Mountain Junior High School and continued with shouting in the parking lot after Vaughn was ejected.
Police arrived and broke it up.
Vaughn was arrested on investigation of assault.
The 42-year-old referee refused medical care.
The basketball game was held for high school students under a YMCA program.
