Come back to gazette.com at noon as we live-blog the Colorado Springs installment of the Tax Day Tea Party from Acacia Park.

The event is part of a national grassroots movement. Organizers say they're steamed at government spending since President Barack Obama's administration took over. The rallies are designed to echo the original Boston Tea Party more than 235 years ago.

The Colorado Springs event is sponsored by the DontGo Movement (www.dontgomovement.com). A press release for the event says it is part of a movement organized in collaboration with former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich and Colorado Springs resident Michelle Malkin, a conservative author and cable news celebrity whose column appears in the Opinion section of The Gazette.

The demonstrations are being held everywhere from Kentucky, which just passed tax increases on cigarettes and alcohol, to South Carolina, where the governor has repeatedly criticized the stimulus package. Large protests also are expected in California, New York and Atlanta.
