A pit bull was euthanized Monday by the Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region after biting an 11-year-old child Sunday afternoon south of Memorial Park.

The incident happened about 5:15 p.m. in the 700 block of Prospect Lake Drive.

The child was bitten on the calf, but suffered only minor injuries, according to Sgt. Steve Buzzell with the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The owner of the pit bull was cited in connection with the incident.

In another dog-biting incident over the weekend, a labrador bit the face of a 7-year-old girl Saturday in north Colorado Springs near Union Blvd. and Dublin Blvd.

The girl, who received 20 stitches, was in her yard near the fence when the dog in the yard next door reached over the fence and bit her, according to Stacey Candella of the Humane Society.

The dog's owners have been cited by the Humane Society's animal welfare officers for unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog. The dog is still at home and has been quarantined for 10 days.
