If you make just one resolution, avoid information pitfalls
Comments 0 | Recommend 0As expected, sources of health news are boiling over with the usual New Year grab bag of stories on resolutions, diets, the latest trends, the top 10 lists, etc. Today on Alltop's health page, for example:
- From CNN. "The best way to measure body fat."
- From Newswise.com. "Staying healthy in a tough economy."
- From USA Today. "Keep away from calorie bombs."
- From MSNBC. "Work out for less: Shape up and save in 2009."
There's nothing wrong with New Year's resolutions, and I'm sure many of these stories that capitalize on the annual surge of wellness enthusiasts have some nuggets of great advice.
But for the person interested in serious change, here's a resolution that might not be as sexy as dropping 10 pounds or joining a gym but I would argue is just as important: Be a smart health consumer. Avoid the pitfalls of clever - but often empty - PR pitches and look for the news that rises above the fray. In the information age, it pays to be a skeptic.
