Gunshots draw police attention overnight
Gunfire, a short chase and a car crash made for a busy night for police officers in the south end of Colorado Springs in the early hours of Saturday morning.
At about 3 a.m. Saturday, police responded to calls about gunfire near Airport and South Chelton roads. They were done checking when they heard more shots in the 3400 block of Michigan Avenue.
Seconds later a white Chevrolet Blazer was seen speeding eastbound on the same street, police said. The driver ignored police officers, and a short chase ensued. Police stopped the pursuit when the Blazer's speed became excessive.
The Blazer sped away westbound on Airport Road and ran a red light at South Circle Drive.
A short time later, police learned of a single-vehicle crash at Airport Road and Printers Parkway. Police officers said the white blazer from the pursuit had left the west side of the roadway and struck a tree. No one was in the area at the time, and officers found a gun in the vehicle.
Earlier Saturday, police made an arrest in a domestic violence incident that happened in the parking lot of a bar on Galley Road.
Police were called to the Old School Tavern, 2945 Galley Road, just after 1:30 a.m. A woman told officers that her ex-husband had pulled a gun and pointed at a man who accompanied her to the establishment. The gunman then pointed the pistol at the woman and demanded her cellular phone, police said. After getting the phone, the man fired several rounds into the air, police said.
After a brief investigation, officers arrested Israel Jimenez-Roldan, 42, on investigation of two felonies and two misdemeanors tied to the incident. He was held in the El Paso County jail.
