A 13-year-old girl left a path of destruction after boosting her parents' car to take friends to school, Colorado Springs police said.

Police say the girl took a 1988 Chevy Suburban without her parents' permission around 7:30 Tuesday morning and struck a 2009 Dodge Journey twice, once rear-ending it while traveling north on Murray Boulevard south of Airport Road and striking it again when attempting to turn left on Gahart Drive.

The girl then ran into a fire hydrant in the 4300 block of Dewey Drive, and a gusher of water created a 5-foot square sinkhole, police said.

The teen was attempting to drive five friends to Emerson-Edison Junior High School. All fled the scene after crashing into the hydrant, police said.

The children were found later at school.

After being charged with driving without a license or insurance, hit and run and reckless driving, the girl was released to her parents, police said.

No injuries were reported.
