THE GAZETTE

The population of Colorado Springs increased by an estimated 4,582 people from 2007 to last year, according to U.S. Census Bureau figures released today. It averages to about 12 people being added to the city every day.

The Census Bureau figures Colorado Springs was home to 380,307 people in 2008.

That's an increase of 1 percent from a year earlier, and 5 percent from the last time the federal government took a complete head count, in 2000.

The vast majority of population growth in the region during the past near-decade has happened outside any city's boundaries. El Paso County's population in unincorporated areas is up 42 percent since 2000, hitting an estimated 184,261 last year. Among Colorado's 64 counties, only unincorporated Douglas and Routt counties have grown faster.

Populations for other towns in El Paso County:

• Calhan, population 868, down 3 percent since 2000.
• Fountain, population 19,669, up 29 percent.
• Green Mountain Falls, population 753, up 4 percent.
• Manitou Springs, population 5,161, up 4 percent.
• Monument, population 2,588, up 31 percent.
• Palmer Lake, population 2,326, up 7 percent.
• Ramah, population 120, up 3 percent.

Ted Haggard is starting new church at his Colorado Springs home.
What's your view?
Good for him. If God has called Haggard to return to ministry, he should obey.
Haggard should stay out of the ministry. He has too much baggage to lead a church.
I don't care what Haggard does, and I'm sick of hearing about him in the news.
Haggard and anyone crazy enough to attend his church deserve each other.
Haggard has a lot to offer as a pastor. Let's give him a chance.
