    THE GAZETTE

Phylicia Kecskes wrote in to nominate her friend A.J. as a Great Kid. Phylicia said A.J., who's finishing up his junior year, has been writing for The Sentinel, Sierra High School's newspaper, since he was a sophomore.

"He found a passion for newspaper. This passion helped him to get accepted to the Princeton Summer Journalism Program," Phylicia wrote.

The superexclusive program is in its eighth year. Here's what the Princeton Summer Journalism Program's Web site has to say about it:

"We welcome about 20 high school students from low-income backgrounds every summer to Princeton's campus for an intensive, 10-day seminar on journalism. The program's goal is to diversify college and professional newsrooms by encouraging outstanding students from low-income backgrounds to pursue careers in journalism. All expenses, including students' travel costs to and from Princeton, are paid for by the program. Students who attend the program come from across the country."
