ESSENTIALS: Promotions, honors, new businesses

EDUCATION
• University of the Rockies, a graduate school specializing in psychology programs at the master’s and doctoral levels, announced that Tina Parscal, a Colorado native with more than 20 years of higher education experience, has been appointed to the position of university provost. In that role, Parscal will serve as a member of the university’s executive team, overseeing the academic affairs and faculty departments. She joined University of the Rockies in May 2009 as director of academic quality.

HEALTH CARE
• Ginny Brown has joined the Colorado Hospital Association as vice president of legislative and regulatory affairs. Previously, she had spent nearly a decade in state government. Most recently, she managed legislative affairs for the Colorado Department of Health Care Policy and Financing.

OTHER INDUSTRIES
• Alexander Yoder recently joined Dorman Real Estate as a property manager/leasing agent.
• Padgett Business Services of Colorado Springs announced its acquisition of Conley Accounting LLC, also of Colorado Springs. Padgett Business Services offers personalized monthly profit and loss statements, payroll processing, tax planning and business consulting, as well as pick-up and delivery service.
• Guillermo Rojas has been hired as the director of marketing and business development for USA Swimming. He joins USA Swimming from the U.S. Olympic Committee, where he most recently served as associate director of business development.
• The U.S. Air Force Academy Association of Graduates is receiving a $10,000 grant from the Northwestern Mutual Foundation in recognition of financial representative Michael Torreano’s volunteer involvement as part of Northwestern Mutual’s Community Service Award program. A Colorado Springs resident, Torreano is a representative with Northwestern Mutual-Denver; he is one of 25 financial representatives being recognized as top volunteers.
• Englewood-based Bye Energy, an integrator of alternative energy technologies for business and general aviation, has named Global Near Space Services of Colorado Springs as a sponsor of The Green Flight Project. The Green Flight Project is intended to enhance the development of an electric and electric-hybrid propulsion system for commercial application.
