Colorado Springs listed as 4th-best place to live
Colorado Springs has another reason to brag: It’s ranked No. 4 by “Cities Ranked & Rated,” a book billed as “the ultimate sourcebook for anyone looking to find the best place to live.”
The book, released Monday, analyzes 400 metro areas in the U.S. and Canada. Cities are ranked on 10 major criteria, including economy, cost of living, crime and overall quality of life.
The Springs earned 93.9 points out of a possible 100. Pros were listed as attractive setting, summer climate and educational attainment. Cons included growth and sprawl, economic cycles and crime.
Gainesville, Fla., tops the list. The Fort Collins-Loveland area is No. 8. At the bottom: Modesto, Calif., which earned a zero on the 100-point scale.
“Cities Ranked & Rated” is published by Frommer’s, known for its travel guides, and written by Bert Sperling and Peter Sander. Sperling is the creator of Money magazine’s annual Best Places to Live list; that list named Colorado Springs as the nation’s best big city in 2006.
