THE ASSOCIATED PRESS AND THE GAZETTE

BURLINGTON - Kit Carson County authorities say a kennel owner on Colorado's eastern plains is in jail after 41 dead dogs were found on his property.

Kit Carson County Sheriff Ed Raps said 34-year-old Troy Tagtmeyer was arrested last week on suspicion of aggravated cruelty to animals.

State health and agriculture officials shut down Tagtmeyer's Neco Kennels after finding the carcasses, Raps said. Six malnourished and sick dogs were confiscated, but one of the dogs has since died.

Raps said Tagtmeyer is in jail with a bond set at $25,000.
