Ritter to oppose personhood amendment

THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

DENVER - Gov. Bill Ritter is opposing a first-in-the-nation proposal on Colorado ballots this fall that would define a fertilized egg as a person and potentially outlaw abortion.

Ritter plans a news conference today to oppose Amendment 48, which would change the state constitution.

The governor has also come out against other ballot measures, including a ban on affirmative action in state decisions and a ban on requiring workers to join a union.
