A former Spanish translator for Focus on the Family was sentenced Oct. 13 to five years of intensive supervision after he was nabbed attempting to arrange sex with an underage girl in an Internet sex sting

Juan Alberto Ovalle, 42, of Colorado Springs pleaded guilty to the attempted sexual assault of a child on July 6.

Authorities in the 1st Judicial District representing Jefferson and Gilpin counties charged that Ovalle made sexual overtures to a District Attorney’s investigator who was posing as young girl on a chat site.  As part of the guilty plea, his probation supervision will be transferred to El Paso County.

Ovalle was fired from Focus on the Family when the allegations surfaced.  He had been an employee since 2003, charged with translating radio broadcasts and other material into Spanish.
