Conference focuses on victims of sexual abuse
First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou St., will hold a free conference from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sept. 25 for survivors of childhood sexual abuse.
The main speaker is counselor Marguerite McCormack, whose work includes counseling students who experienced the 1999 shootings at Columbine High School.
“Trauma can change the way the brain and body work, sometimes after a single overwhelming exposure,” McCormick said. “This talk will describe the mechanisms behind these changes, help survivors cope with the effects, and provide listeners with strategies to work with trauma.”
The conference will be held in the Aspen Room of the Weber Street Center on the First Presbyterian campus.
To register or for more information, call the church at 884-6114.
