HOLIDAY WEEKEND HAPPENINGS -

• Take that green thumb of yours and make a smudge on the calendar for Cheyenne Mountain Zoo's 12th Annual Plant Sale, scheduled for this Memorial Day Weekend, today through Monday. Hosted by the Zoo's horticulture department, the fundraising event is held at the Zoo's from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Admission to the Zoo is not required to attend the popular sale.
According to the Zoo's Horticulture Curator Scott Myers, the sale focuses on flora that thrives in the region's unpredictable and often harsh growing conditions. Gardeners can choose from several categories including native flowers, shade plants, hummingbird flowers, dry land and wetland perennials, and butterfly flowers. Many of these perennial flower and plant varieties have been used successful on Zoo grounds and in the Zoo's "No Water Gardens." A selection of herbs also will be available.
So if you are looking for plants that attract butterflies and hummingbirds instead of deer, or want to replace a thirsty plant with something less needy, this sale is for you! Horticulture staff will be on hand each day to answer questions. Proceeds from the event go towards the Zoo's plant programs.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
