Storm leaves roads icy, snow-covered

Snow fell fast and furiously in Colorado Springs Wednesday night, with one to three inches, depending on the part of town, falling in a few hours, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo.

Rush hour commuters battled slush and blowing snow and found the worst conditions on Monument Hill.

Most of the accumulation had fallen by 8:45 p.m. but roads were extremely icy throughout the night. The Colorado State Patrol required chains on commercial vehicles passing over Monument Hill and were responding to vehicles that had slid off the road in high numbers in northern El Paso County.

A new, large storm is brewing over the Rocky Mountains and is expected to hit northern Colorado late Friday night and Saturday morning. Conditions in Teller and northern El Paso counties could be treacherous Saturday morning, a weather service meteorologist said.
