SUNRISE: Freezing temperatures means icy spots, blowing snow on roads

THE GAZETTE

Expect a frigid morning today as high winds and blowing snow create a wind chill predicted to be between minus 10 and 0, according to the National Weather Service. The service predicts a high of 19 degrees today and winds between 5 to 15 mph.

No snow is predicted in Colorado Springs today, though the blowing wind might make it appear to be snowing. In Monument, there’s a 10 percent chance of a small amount of snow.

On the roads, expect snow and icy spots along the Front Range and blowing snow out east would could create snow drifts and severely decrease visibility – especially along Interstate 70 east of Limon.

Tonight, on Christmas Eve, Santa will be shivering in his sleigh. Forecasters predict a low tonight between minus 5 and minus 15 degrees. On Christmas, temperatures are predicted to remain in the low 20s and a slight chance of snow is predicted.


MISSING MAN FOUND

An 85-year-old man who went missing Wednesday afternoon was found safe, according to Colorado Springs police officer.

About 4 p.m. Wednesday, officers learned that Howard Hanawalt, who lives in north Colorado Springs, was missing and driving a Buick LeSabre. Police searched the areas he usually likes to visit but did not find him. Later that night, Hanawalt was found in Douglas County.
