United's in-flight magazine puts spotlight on Springs

The article ‘paints a really positive picture'

THE GAZETTE

Colorado Springs is the featured subject of a 24-page special section in the September issue of United Airlines' in-flight magazine, Hemispheres.

"I think it paints a really positive picture for both tourism and economic development," said Amy Long, director of marketing and membership for Experience Colorado Springs at Pikes Peak, the convention and visitors bureau.

United flies about 8 million passengers a month, Long said, so the potential audience for the section is huge.

And it's an editorial section, not advertorial, so it has more credibility with readers, she said.

The section includes stories on the area's history by Colorado Springs cultural services manager Matt Mayberry, outdoor opportunities, local housing and neighborhoods, the economy, the Olympic Training Center, and the local arts scene.

The Colorado Springs spread is part of a series of city profiles Hemispheres runs several times a year.

"It really helps with our branding," Long said, "with being a vibrant, sophisticated city with a lot of great things to do and a great place to live."

If you're flying during September, you can see the article in the magazine available in the seat pocket of the airline.

If not, read it on www.hemispheresmagazine.com.
