Four Coronado High School students were hit by a van Friday morning as they crossed Fillmore Street, Colorado Springs police reported.

The four students — a girl and three boys 14 to 16 years old, whose names weren’t released — were taken to Memorial Hospital. One of them had a head injury and possibly broken ribs, police said.

None of the injuries was considered life-threatening, said Elaine Naleski, spokeswoman for Colorado Springs School District 11.

The students were struck by 43-year-old Velda Baker, a parent of a Coronado student who was driving east on Fillmore about 7:30 a.m., police said. She was cited for careless driving.

“The parent was turning left at the light,” Naleski said. “The students were in the crosswalk. The parent said she was blinded by sun glare and didn’t see the students.”

The incident remains under investigation, and all four teens remained at Memorial Hospital on Friday afternoon, Naleski said.
