Firefighters announced Sunday they had extinguished the wildfire burning in rugged terrain west of Manitou Springs.

Rain showers, cooler temperatures and calmer winds helped put out the blaze that started Friday near the popular Incline hiking trail. It was completely out by 9 a.m. Sunday, said Dave Hunting of the Manitou Springs Fire Department.

Both the Incline and Barr Trail are now open, as is Ruxton Avenue, officials said Sunday. A phone recording at the Pikes Peak Cog Railway said a train went up the mountain at 2:40 p.m. Sunday, and more trains were scheduled for today.

Officials have revised the number of acres burned by the fire. Better mapping using global positioning system units show the fire burned 30 acres, not 80 as originally thought, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.
