3 local events address tantric practices

Spiritual teacher Jeffrey Armstrong will lead three events in Colorado Springs next week for people who want to learn more about the Hindu philosophy of tantra, an ancient discipline that combines sex and spirituality.

Armstrong, who has practiced yoga and tantra for 35 years, hopes to break the widespread misconceptions about tantra.

"People tend to think tantra is all about sex," said Meryl Runion, coordinator of the Colorado Springs events.

"But it's really about male and female energies, and opening the heart completely to love."

Armstrong will give a free talk 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Unity Church in the Rockies, 1945 Mesa Road, about what was right and wrong about the New Age movement's understanding of tantra.

On Friday, Armstrong will give an introduction to tantra 7 to 9 p.m. at the Colorado Ecospiritual Center, 2502 W. Colorado Ave., Suite 307.

Cost is $20; tickets are available at the door.

He'll host another event, "The Ultimate Relationship Seminar," at the Colorado Ecospiritual Center 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 16 and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 17.

Disabled veteran to speak

Retired Sgt. Tim Lee, a disabled Vietnam veteran from Garland, Texas, will speak at the 9:45 a.m. and 11 a.m. services Sept. 21 at Circle Drive Baptist Church, 801 N. Circle Drive.

While serving in Vietnam, Lee stepped on a land mine. His legs were mangled and had to be amputated.

Lee heads Tim Lee Ministries and speaks regularly at U.S. churches about how his faith in God helped him accept his physical impairment.

"It is incredible how he overcame this and knew that God had a purpose for his life," said Beverly Morgan, the senior pastor's secretary at the church.
