Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opening in Monument draws big crowds

The Gazette

By the crowds, you’d think a celebrity was in town.

More than 700 people gathered Tuesday for the opening of Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers, 15778 Jackson Creek Parkway in Monument.

The Wichita, Kansas-based burger chain features lean ground meat steakburgers, fries, Chicago-style hotdogs and frozen custard.

“Our burgers are made with 85 to 15 percent lean ground beef,” said Kyle Gerstner, the franchise owner, “compared to 80 to 20 percent lean ground beef used at other burger places.”

The burgers are formed into balls of meat and smashed on a 400 degree flat-top. The result is a thin patty with crispy edges.

Not interested in driving to Monument for a Freddy’s fix? You won’t have to make the trip for too many months. Gerstner plans to open four or five more stores in Colorado Springs.

“If everything goes as planned, we hope to have another store open on the Powers corridor in June,” he said. “Our goal is to open a new store every six months.”

The Monument store is open 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays; and, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Call 488-5918.
