TABLE TALK: Treat your valentine to yummy eats
Here are some last-minute ideas for a Valentine’s Day treat for someone special.
• A beautiful collection of chocolates from The Art of Chocolate. The local company makes chocolates in the commercial kitchen of Taste of Life Natural Market & Prepared Meals, 15910 Jackson Creek Parkway, Monument. A dozen candies cost $11.99 and come in lovely boxes.
Some of the unusual truffle flavors include: cherry amaretto, double chocolate raspberry cheesecake and French chocolate cream. They make caramels, too.
Supplies are limited. Call 487-2858 to place special orders. Store hours are 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays.
• A Culinary Creations Stay at the Holden House, 1102 W. Pikes Peak Ave. The specially prepared “Romance Package” includes breakfast delivered to your room one of the mornings of your stay and a $100 gift certificate to the Craftwood Inn for dinner. Cost is $330 for one night or $485 for two nights (plus taxes). Call 471-3980.
• The Blue Star, 1645 S. Tejon St., will have a prix fixe, three-course menu for $48, or $60 with wine pairing, per person, offered Friday through Sunday. Call 632-1086.
• Motif, 2432 Cucharras St., will have a five-course dinner with wine for $50 per person on Monday. Call 635-5635.
• Drop by Garden of the Gods Gourmet, 2528 W. Cucharras St., for a wide selection of Valentine’s Day gourmet gift baskets or certificates, such as My Little Valentine ($15), a box of six heart-shape Linzer Tort cookies, or Kiss the Chef ($80), a four-course meal for two.
There will also be a Valentine’s Day five-course Dinner with Our Chef in the Kitchen at 7 p.m. today or Monday. Cost is $35 per person and includes a glass of wine. Call 471-2799.
• Cook up a special meal at home, starting with a heart-shape rib-eye steak from Ranch Foods Direct, 2901 N. El Paso. Call 473-2306.
• Louie’s Pizza: Valentine’s Day pizzas, available only on Valentine’s Day but must be ordered the day before, $18.62 pickup or $19.62 delivered, large heart-shape pizza with as many as three toppings, large tossed salad, 2-liter bottle of soda and teddy bear with candy. Check phone book for locations and phone numbers.
• Papa Murphy’s Take ’n’ Bake: $5 for 14-inch, heart-shape pizzas available through Monday. Call before you go.
Coming soon
John Ra, owner of Tomo Sushi restaurants, will open Burgers and Bowls at 333 N. Tejon St. toward the end of February. He has run into more construction issues than he had planned, which has pushed back the opening date.
Glass Slipper winners
The Zonta Club of the Pikes Peak Area handed out awards for the best appetizer and dessert at its Glass Slipper Ball on Saturday. Taking the top honors for Best Appetizer were the Crowne Plaza’s David Terrell, executive chef and Anthony Meal, executive sous chef. Whole Foods Market took the top prize for Best Dessert, led by Pierre Osborne, the pastry chef.
Eat out to help out
There will be a Community Dinner at Garden of the Gods Gourmet, 2528 W. Cucharras St., 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday to support Wasson High School students who are in the ProStart culinary program. Cost is $20 per person. Call 471-2799.
Cook like a chef
The Picnic Basket Catering, 1701-A S. Eighth St., will offer cooking classes taught by its chefs. The classes are 6 to 9 p.m., unless noted. Cost is $69 each, unless noted. Call 635-0200 for reservations.

New Nosh cafe?
An empty storefront in Plaza of the Rockies says: “COMING SOON: Nosh Chocolate & Coffee.”
Nosh owner Joseph Coleman wouldn’t give details about the new cafe, nor would he give an expected timetable.
