Variety show planned in D-2
It takes a village to put on a variety show — at least where Harrison School District 2 is concerned. Fifteen of the district’s community non-profit partners will provide the entertainment and information about their organizations.
The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., April 27 at the Doubletree Hotel, 1775 E. Cheyenne Mountain Blvd. Stacia Naquin of KKTV will emcee.
The free show will include snacks and door prizes.
Among the organizations that will perform skits and music are Southeast Family Center and YMCA, Sand Creek Library, League of United Latin American Citizens, Peak Education, Peak Vista Community Health Centers, Pikes Peak Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Community Partnership for Child Development, Junior Achievement of Southern Colorado, Pikes Peak Red Cross, Pikes Peak United Way, Urban Peak, Colorado Springs Conservatory, and the Child Nursery Center.
Falcon teacher wins Einstein fellowship
Erik Russell, a fourth-grade teacher at Odyssey Elementary School, has been named an Albert Einstein Distinguished Educator Fellow.
He is one of 20 educators nationwide who will spend September through July, 2011 working in public policy with the National Science Foundation in Arlington, Va.
Russell coordinates Falcon School District 49’s Engineering is Elementary program and K-12 Science, Technology, Engineering and Math initiative. He has worked the past five years to form a partnerships between the district and science-related corporations and institutions such as the Boston Museum of Science.
Galileo art show of recyled items
Galileo School of Math and Science is holding an art show of recycled items from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, at the school, 1600 N. Union Blvd. Superintendent Nicholas Gledich will present the art show winners, and there will be refreshments and door prizes.
Questions and coffee in Falcon
Board members of Falcon School District 49 are asking the community to bring questions and ideas to another of its Coffee and Conversation events, 7:30 p.m. Monday at the Stetson Hills Police substation meeting room. The police station is at 4110 Tutt Blvd.
