Weather service betting on a warm November

Outdoorsmen rejoice:  There’s a good chance it’ll be a warm November.

A 40 percent chance, to be precise.

That’s the bet the National Weather Service is placing on November days staying above the normal average temperature of 36.2 degrees. So cyclists, hikers, hunters and joggers can count on getting outside without the stuff in their nose freezing.

“It’s going to be warmer than normal, but around normal as far as precipitation goes,” said Jim Hall, a spokesman for the weather service.

The average high is a mild 49.8 degrees, and the night chill generally dips to 22.6 degrees, according to climatological data.

November usually rivals December for snowfall, with an average of 6.2 inches compared to 6.7 inches. Winter begins Dec. 22.

The high on Thanksgiving is expected to be 46 degrees and the low about 19.  The warmest Turkey Day on record: 70 degrees in 1950.  The coldest: a frigid minus 4, set in 1952.

Hall said it looks like November should receive about the average for precipitation, or .52 inches.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
