Fort Carson welcomes another 425 soldiers back from Iraq

THE GAZETTE

This weekend will bring another influx of homecoming troops at Fort Carson, which will welcome 425 soldiers back from Iraq through Sunday.

About 400 of the soldiers are returning from a year of combat in southern Iraq where they hunted down insurgents and trained Iraqi forces while serving with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team of the 4th Infantry Division. A small contingent of soldiers from the 43rd Sustainment Brigade is also coming home from a year at war where they helped support combat units.

The flow of soldiers will continue for the next two weeks as the entire 3,800-soldier 2nd Brigade comes home. With the brigade’s return, Fort Carson will be busting at the seams with soldiers. The post will have three combat brigades at home and one deployed to Afghanistan, boosting its population to levels unseen since 2003.
