OLYMPICS: 84 days to Vancouver: OTC wrestler set for dual vs. Russia in NYC

Olympic Training Center wrestler Andy Hrovat will compete Friday in the 211.5-pound division of a freestyle exhibition between the U.S. and Russia in New York.

It’s a tune-up for the New York Athletic Club International Open, which is Sunday. The competition should be tough, since Russia is the reigning world champion. Hrovat will be joined by Shawn Bunch, Jared Frayer, Sam Hazewinkel, Jake Herbert, Trent Paulson and Scott Steele. Herbert won a silver medal last month at the world championships.

A 2008 Olympian, Hrovat, 29, placed second at the U.S. world team trials behind Jake Varner. The 2007 Pan American Games silver medalist has had success in the Big Apple, with two golds, a silver and a bronze at the New York Athletic Club International Open.
