THE GAZETTE

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo officials will throw a party today to celebrate the first birthday of one of its gorillas.

Zoo staff and a group of preschoolers will be preparing treats and a birthday cake for Tumani, a female western lowland gorilla. Her cake will be made of leaf eater chow, Jell-O, peanut butter, bananas, raisins and strawberries, the zoo said.

The party begins at 10:30 a.m.

Tumani, Swahili for “hope,” was born at the zoo Jan. 31. Her mother, Asha, and father, Rafiki, also live at the zoo.
