KEY ISSUES

1. What should state lawmakers be doing to strengthen Colorado's economy?

The General Assembly should reduce spending, taxes, fees, and unneeded government regulations. The business personal property tax is particularly bad for small businesses, and should be phased out. Energy and health care should be made more affordable by decontrolling unnecessary government intrusion and mandates.

2. What should the state Legislature do about illegal immigration, or has it taken all necessary steps?

Much more state action is necessary to assure government funding is not provided for nonemergency programs that can go to illegal aliens. If arrested and identified as illegal aliens, all suspects should be referred to ICE. We must take action now to get unlicensed or forged-licensed drivers off our roads.

3. What role should the state government play in the advancement of renewable energy?

Renewable and "alternative" energy sources and conservation should be considered when practical and economical to do so, but not at the cost of making vehicle fuel and home heating energy unaffordable or rationed to consumers. In general, I oppose using taxpayer money to subsidize production of one source over another.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
