KEY ISSUES

1. What should state lawmakers be doing to strengthen Colorado's economy?

We are fortunate here in Colorado to have a strong, vibrant oil and gas industry. We should work with the industry, not tax it even more. The oil and gas industry has options, other than just Colorado. As a legislator, I have worked to ensure we pass legislation to help our business community, especially small business. We also need to work with our military community, as they contribute greatly to our economy here in Colorado.

2. What should the state Legislature do about illegal immigration, or has it taken all necessary steps?

The Legislature has passed numerous laws over the past three years to crack down on illegal immigration. The governor, his staff and law enforcement need to enforce the laws on our books. Acts by illegals, illegal ones, need to be reported to authorities. Bail should be denied to those charged with serious crimes. We should strengthen penalties for traffic offenses which illegals are involved in, as well.

3. What role should the state government play in the advancement of renewable energy?

The state of Colorado and the free market should encourage all forms of energy development; traditional as well as all forms of renewables. They all have a place in our future, if they can be economically viable. We should not put harsh mandates, burdensome rules and additional taxes on oil and gas just to subsidize more expensive renewables. These actions hurt all consumers.
