KEY ISSUES
1. What timetable for withdrawal from Iraq do you support and how would you pay for continued military presence?
I would pay for our continued military presence the same way we have paid for it in the past, through the general fund. The surge has been successful. Withdrawal should take place only once we have a stable democracy in Iraq.
2. Would you support a second round of stimulus checks to bolster the economy? If so, how would it be funded? If not, what alternatives would you offer?
No. We have spent already more than we counted on for various bailouts. I do not want taxpayer money spent on various wish lists beyond that.
3. What, if anything, needs to be done to address global warming? Do you support subsidizing renewable energy development, increasing oil and gas drilling or a combination?
I support an all-of-the above approach to increasing our domestic energy production. We need more drilling. I have co-sponsored H.R. 6566, The American Energy Act. The bill would increase the domestic supply of energy in environmentally sound ways by opening up deep sea resources, ANWR and oil shale resources. In addition, conservation and energy efficiency would be improved by offering tax incentives for businesses and homeowners who improve their energy efficiency. Finally, this bill promotes renewable and alternative energy technologies.
