TV TALK: More than a ghost of a shot at fame
Everybody has a ghost story. Mike Coleta has captured his on video.
In September, Coletta, who volunteers at Evergreen Cemetery, captured on videotape what he thought was a ghost that opened a crypt door in the old chapel basement.
He was video taping a KII meter, which ghost hunters use in paranormal research. The device had indicated evidence of an electrical magnetic field when, out of the corner of his eye, Coletta saw a crypt door begin to open. He swung the camera around to capture the action.
“Ho-ly-Cow, oh, my goodness,” Coletta is heard saying on the tape. “Wow, Wow, Wow.”
The producers of A&E Biography Channel’s “My Ghost Stories” saw the video on YouTube and were so excited they flew Coletta and Everygreen Cemetery manager William DeBoer out to Los Angeles for interviews to reenact the sequence.
DeBoer, who has never seen a ghost in his 19 years at Evergreen, has heard stories from others about shadows moving up the basement stairs of the chapel.
“I’m the eternal skeptic,” he said.
The show was in the Springs in early January and filmed segments inside the chapel. Producers plan to use cuts from Coletta’s video in the segment, which will air this season.
Coletta isn’t a stranger to cemeteries or funeral homes.
”My dad was a mortician in a funeral home in Chicago, where my uncle was the director,” he said.
When not tracking down paranormal activity or chasing UFOs, Coletta is Technical Order Manager Launch and Test Range Systems at Peterson Air Force Base and blogged about local media on Newsblab, an online newspaper, from 2002 to 2008.

February sweeps
The February TV ratings begin this Thursday and continue through March 2. That means the end of reruns on the major networks as well as the introduction of some new shows.
KXRM/Channel 21 will be helped by coverage of the Super Bowl.
“Mr. Sunshine,” starring Matthew Perry and “Body of Proof,” featuring Dana Delaney are new shows on KRDO/Channel 13, as well as “The Academy Awards.”
Some of NBC’s new mid-season shows include “America’s Next Great Restaurant” and “Friends with Benefits” on KOAA/Channel 5.
KKTV/Channel 11 will air the new CBS reality-competition show “Live to Dance” with Paula Abdul and the “53rd Annual Grammy Awards.”
