Nimoy will beam in for annual space symposium
Comments 0 | Recommend 0He has lived long and prospered, and soon Earth’s favorite vulcan will headline a space symposium near you.
Actor Leonard Nimoy, best known as Spock in “Star Trek,” will give a talk during the 2010 Space Technology Hall of Fame Dinner planned for April 15 at The Broadmoor hotel. The dinner will be the capstone event of the 26th National Space Symposium, which is set to run April 12 to 15.
The Colorado Springs-based Space Foundation made the announcement about Nimoy on Monday but was sketchy on details.
According to the symposium’s Web site (nationalspacesymposium.org) on Monday, tickets to the dinner are $120 and may be purchased separately.
But foundation spokeswoman Carol S. Hively said that’s a bit misleading. She said the dinner would be open only to those who signed up for the full symposium, which ranges from $790 to $1,675. She wasn’t sure whether Nimoy might be available for other symposium events or public engagements but expected details to be worked out soon.
“Leonard Nimoy has inspired people around the world to explore the wonders of science, space and technology through his television and motion picture portrayals of ‘Star Trek’’s Mr. Spock and through his career as an actor, author, director and an advocate,” said Space Foundation CEO Elliot Pulham said in a press release Monday. “That spirit of exploration and discovery is echoed in the Space Technology Hall of Fame, which annually recognizes technologies from space that now improve life here on Earth.
