Army opens clinic where its families live - in town
Army medical care went uptown and upscale Tuesday with the opening of a clinic on Union Boulevard, miles from Fort Carson’s gates but closer to families and retirees who live in north Colorado Springs.
The clinic, at Austin Bluffs Parkway and Union, sits in a building that includes Premier MediSpa, which offers everything from Botox treatments to massage.
Staffed by Army doctors and nurses along with civilian workers, the clinic will provide care to 8,000 people, mostly the families of soldiers who live off-post, said Col. Jimmie Keenan, who commands Evans Army Community Hospital and runs the Army’s local health care system.
“It’s strategically located to support our beneficiaries,” she said.
Keenan said the Premier Army Health Clinic also will take pressure off facilities at Carson, where 6,500 additional soldiers arrived this summer.
More than 70 percent of local Army families live outside Fort Carson’s fences, she said.
Apart from green wallpaper and uniformed physicians, the clinic looks like other doctors’ offices in the complex.
The clinic has a focus on women’s health, family medicine and pediatrics. Covering 16,000 square feet, it includes a pharmacy, X-ray facilities and a full laboratory. The Army has a five-year lease on the site.
