A man who fled from police after a traffic stop early Friday was tased twice and sprayed with Mace before he was arrested.

According to Colorado Springs Police, officer Ron Blair spotted a car driving recklessly on Powers Boulevard near Platte Avenue about 4 a.m. Friday. When Blair tried to stop the vehicle, it sped away.

Blair saw the vehicle drive into a residential area in Cimarron Hills and saw a man, identified by police as 30-year-old Charles Helms, get out of the car and run.

Blair chased Helms down and tased him twice, sprayed him with Mace and tackled him.

Helms was arrested and taken to the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center. He faces possible charges including traffic violations, suspicion of driving under the influence and obstructing a peace officer, all misdemeanors.
