High winds cause siding to blow off building, onto train tracks

THE GAZETTE

Train tracks running through Colorado Springs have been closed after the siding of a downtown business blew onto the tracks.

At about 5:15 p.m., the wind whipped corrugated steel siding off the building of Carrier West and onto the train tracks near the building, 215 W. Cimarron St.

The building has been evacuated and firefighters are working to secure the rest of its siding from blowing away, according to Lt. Mike Smaldino of the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

The incident is the largest thus far today after high winds raked much of the Pikes Peak region. Trees and tree limbs blew down across Colorado Springs, with much of the damage occurring in the southwest portion of the city.
