THE GAZETTE

Police say a man running late to a class being conducted by Mothers Against Drunk Driving last night assaulted a cop when he wasn't allowed to sit in.

Officers say Dustin Lee Chady was heading to the class at 3115 E. Platte Avenue when he ran into Officer J.D. Walker, who was working security at the event.

When Chady tried to force his way into the class, Walker stopped him and a fight ensued, according to police reports. Police say Chady hit Walker several times before he was restrained by the officer.

Officers reached this morning didn't know why Chady was so eager to go to the class.

Both of the men were taken to a hospital after the fight for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Walker got to go home Monday night, but Chady wound up at the El Paso County jail, where he was being held on investigation of assault.

Monday, by the way, marked Chady's 25th birthday, according to jail records.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
