Council considers cat licensing today

THE GAZETTE

Cat owners would have license their pets under a plan the Colorado Springs City Council will hear today.

Dogs are the only animals required to have a license under current city ordinance. The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region is pushing for a cat license requirement, saying it would use the money to reduce overpopulation and euthanasia.

The Humane Society manages animal control under a contract with the city. The cost would be the same as for dog licenses - $12 a year for neutered or spayed animals, and $25 a year for unaltered animals.

The City Council heard a presentation of the Humane Society's plan in July. Today, the council is expected to negotiate keeping some part of the license fees for the city government.

The council's meeting is set for 1 p.m. at City Hall, 107 N. Nevada Ave. Anyone may attend.

Harrison school district closer to pay for performance for teachers
Should teacher pay be based on performance?
Yes. Teachers should be rewarded for good work, and poor performers should be weeded out.
No. Pay for performance is just a back-door way of blaming teachers for other problems in the education system.
It depends on what "performance" means. It's good if there's a fair measurement of performance.
Undecided.
