Air Force coach has close ties with Minnesota coach
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Air Force coach Troy Calhoun will face off against a former colleague and good friend Saturday when the Falcons play at Minnesota.
Third-year Gophers coach Tim Brewster and Calhoun were assistants on the Denver Broncos coaching staff in 2005. Brewster, in the first of two seasons with the Broncos, coached tight ends while Calhoun, in his third and final season with Denver, was the assistant to coach Mike Shanahan.
Calhoun said he didn’t know if familiarity with Brewster would help tactically, but he said of Minnesota that “you see an immense amount that parallels really what the Broncos have done in recent years.”
“Just got a ton of respect for him,” Calhoun added. “Good football coach. … And a guy that’s done a dynamite job there and a group that will get even better.”

On Monday, Air Force announced some statistical errors from the opener. The Falcons’ final touchdown (a 10-yard fumble return) was scored not by sophomore John Lerch but by freshman Olawale Lawal. The play, which occurred early in the fourth quarter, was Lawal’s first in college. He got credit for a tackle for a loss, fumble recovery and touchdown.
In addition, the six tackles credited to sophomore linebacker Will Coley were made by freshman linebacker Cecilio Carter Jr., and the five tackles credited to Casey Cox were made by freshman linebacker Brian Corcoran.
